Is Your Small Business Protected Against Chargebacks?

Running a business comes with many challenges and charge-backs shouldn’t be one of them. So, are you protection against charge-backs? Is your processor covering you against eligible charge-backs, free of charge, so that you can continue focusing on what matters most for your business.
Now, here is the problem, after October 2015, if you swipe the magstripe on the back of a chip card instead of dipping the chip, you could be liable for certain kinds of fraud instead of your bank or the card issuer. Square doesn’t want you to be liable. So processors are scrambling to create a new chip card reader for their clients that uses squares that will lets you accept the latest, most secure ways your customers want to pay.

Here is how they describe a charge-back. A charge-back is created when a buyer contests a card payment with their card-issuing bank. Perhaps the customer didn’t recognize the charge or felt the quality of goods or services was not as advertised.
Now, if there's a fraudulent transaction, the processor notifies the seller of the charge-back via email and by posting a notification on the seller’s dashboard. The processor then begins the investigation by asking the seller for information and supporting documentation about the transaction.
You’ll have 7 days to submit your response to our Information Request Form found in the notification email and on your Square Dashboard. If your information is received and it is determined that further documentation is needed, they will request it via email.
Charge-back Protection is offered if,
  1. They determine you followed best practises for accepting cards
  2. The cumulative charge-back is within your $250 monthly coverage.
Therefore, if your charge-back is covered you will not be liable for the charge-back amount, regardless of the outcome. Once a final resolution is made they will notify you via email for your records. Charge-back Protection guards sellers against eligible charge-backs. however, it does not apply when sellers decide to issue refunds in the ordinary course of business.

How much are you covered each month? You are eligible for $250 of coverage for charge-backs each month. You must respond to the Information Request Form they send you and describe the goods or services sold in order to be eligible for coverage. Here are seven thing you should know for a charge-back to be eligible for coverage, 

  1. The disputed payment must fall completely within the $250 monthly coverage limit 
  2. Coverage cannot be applied to partially cover disputes over $250. 
  3. Charge-backs over $250 are not covered. 
  4. Any unused portion of your previous month’s coverage will not carry over month to month.
  5. You must provide documentation within 7 days in order to be considered eligible for Charge-back Protection.
  6. Charge-back Protection will not cover old or previously received charge-backs.
  7. Coverage is not guaranteed. You must provide sufficient documentation that addresses your buyer’s claim in order to be considered for Charge-back Protection.

If your dog or cat has ever been attacked by fleas, you know it’s uncomfortable for your pet, and uncomfortable for you to watch the constant scratching. But these pests can be more than a nuisance for your pet.
In one day, a single flea can bite more than 400 times, consume more than its body weight of blood, and lay hundreds of eggs, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. And your furry friend can contract dermatitis from the flea saliva, and permanent hair loss and other skin problems from the constant scratching.
Flea bites can also cause anemia; but fleas aren’t the only pests that can cause trouble for your pets. Ticks can transmit Lyme disease, and in turn your pet can bring ticks into the home, putting you and your family at risk.
You’ll want to protect your pet, of course, but it’s important to be cautious when using flea and tick products. Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency issued an advisory about spot-on pesticide products for pets and intensified its evaluation of the products due to an increase in reports of bad reactions, ranging from skin irritation to burns, seizures, and in some cases, death.
Spot-on products are generally sold in tubes or vials and are applied to one or more areas on your pet’s body, such as in between the shoulders or in a stripe along the back.
While spot-on products can be effective treatments for fleas and ticks and many people use them on their pets with no harmful effects, the EPA asks pet owners to carefully follow label directions, monitor their pets for any signs of a bad reaction after applying, and to talk to their veterinarian about responsible use of these products. Follow these safety tips when treating your pet for ticks and fleas:
  • Always read the label carefully before using a flea and tick product. If you don't understand the wording, ask your veterinarian or call the manufacturer before using. 
  • Follow the directions exactly. If the product is for dogs, don't use it on cats or other pets. If the label says use weekly, don't use it daily. If the product is for the house or yard, don't put it directly on your pet. 
  • Keep multiple pets separated after applying a product until it dries to prevent one animal from grooming another and ingesting a drug or pesticide. 
  • Talk to your veterinarian before using a product on weak, old, medicated, sick, pregnant, or nursing pets, or on pets that have previously shown signs of sensitivity to flea or tick products.
  • Monitor your pet for side effects after applying the product, particularly when using the product on your pet for the first time. 
  • If your pet experiences a bad reaction from a spot-on product, immediately bathe the pet with mild soap, rinse with large amounts of water, and call your veterinarian. 
  • Call your veterinarian if your pet shows symptoms of illness after using a product. Symptoms of poisoning include poor appetite, depression, vomiting, diarrhea, or excessive salivation. 
  • Do not apply a product to kittens or puppies unless the label specifically allows this treatment. Use flea combs to pick up fleas, flea eggs, and ticks on puppies and kittens that are too young for flea and tick products. 
It has been found that these chemical products can be harmful to both humans and pets. Therefore, wash your hands immediately with soap and water after applying a product, or use protective gloves while applying. Store products away from food and out of children's reach.
